Eat, Play, Shop in Bali

Gilimanuk's Ayam Betutu Kuah

Betutu is a Balinese dish of steamed or roasted chicken or duck. This highly seasoned and spiced dish is a popular dish in Bali and Lombok. An even spicier version is available using extra-spicy sauce made from uncooked (raw) onion slices mixed with red chili peppers and coconut oil. It takes at least 24 hours to cook.

Asinan & Rujak

 Asinan Bogor

Asinan is some kind of pickled (through brined or vinegared) vegetables or fruits dish. The term asin is Indonesian word for "salty", which explain the process of preserving the ingredients through soaking it in the solution of salt water. There are many types and variations of asinan, and above is the infamous Asinan Bogor.

Fruit Rujak

Fruit rujak consists of slices of assorted tropical fruits such as water apple, pineapple, raw mangoes, jicama, cucumber, kedondong, and raw sweet potato. All of the fruits are sliced to bite-size and mixed with thick sweet spicy dressing (made with palm sugar, sauteed peanuts and chili).

Pork cuts with vinegary dressing

Not sure the origin of this dish, but so far I only find it in Bogor (and one seller, nonetheless).  My guess this exist someplace else, with a different name.

This is one of my niece's favourite dish (mine too).  What's not to love? It's a comfort food and has 3 of yummy ingredients : ham, potato and cheese :-).

I also like making this dish coz it's so easy and fail-proof.  Thanks to epicurious for this recipe.

Kkul Tarae - Traditional Korean Snack

A traditional Korean snack made of honey, malt and filled with ground nuts.

I know, the picture is not that appealing, but it was interesting the way they made it (you can find it on YouTube).  The dough was  stretched & pulled many times until broken into thousands of strands (they said 16,000 strands), which then filled with ground nuts and folded.
